Every great story in this sport starts with someone young enough to not yet know what's impossible. Luke Lamperti was 8. You might've been 10, or 12, or 16. The age doesn't matter as much as the moment — the one where the road opens up and you realize you're not just riding a bike, you're becoming something.
That moment is what we're building toward on April 25th.
Registration is now open for the Junior Road Race at Levi's GranFondo, and it's free to enter. We've designed two distinct race routes for the following categories:
Geysers Route
U18 Men and Women (ages 16–18)
Nonbinary (ages 16–18)
Medio Route
U15 Men and Women (ages 13–15)
Nonbinary (ages 13–15)
Juniors looking to take on the Gran or Growler routes are welcome to do so, but will race in the U24 age group, and must register through the standard GranFondo registration process. Free junior entry does not apply to non-junior categories.
There's a reason we partnered with Cervélo on this one. The roads of Sonoma County are beautiful, but they're not polite. They crack, they climb, they twist through redwoods on surfaces that haven't seen a paving crew since the last election cycle. You need a bike that can handle all of that and still make you feel fast on the descents.
The all-new Cervélo Caledonia is that bike. Purpose-built for riders like us — endurance geometry that stays stable and composed when the road gets interesting, 36mm tire clearance for when "interesting" is an understatement, and a carbon fiber layup that Cervélo has tuned to be lighter, more aerodynamic, and more comfortable than the bike it replaces. It's a fondo machine in its DNA, and we'd argue there isn't a better match for the terrain you'll encounter on April 25th.
What makes this thing special to us is the reach. Four build kits ranging from $3,300 to $6,500 mean that whether you're deep into the sport or still chasing the high of your first century, the Caledonia meets you where you are. Available in two stunning colorways — Nightshift and Mocha — with groupset options from Shimano 105 all the way up to SRAM Force AXS with Reserve carbon wheels.
And if you want to feel it before you believe it, keep reading.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CERVÉLO CALEDONIA
Before you toe the line in Windsor, come hunt some grades with Mikes Bikes in Marin.
This Saturday, March 7th, Mike's Bikes of San Rafael is hosting a proper GranFondo training ride — 34 miles and 3,560 feet of climbing through classic Marin County terrain. Punchy rollers, sustained climbs, and fast, winding descents on some of the best ribbons of tarmac the Bay Area has to offer. If you're preparing for the Piccolo, Medio, Gran, or Growler, this is your kind of Saturday morning.
The vibe is focused on the climbs but social on the flats. We'll regroup at the top of every major ascent, so push your own pace on the way up and catch your breath with good company at the top.
THE NEW CALEDONIA CERVÉLO DEMO FLEET!
Cervélo will have a fleet of demo bikes on-site — including the brand-new Caledonia — and you can ride one on the training ride free of charge. This is the first opportunity to put your hands on the bike we just told you about, and you'll get to test it on terrain that mirrors what you'll face at the GranFondo. Fill out the form below to reserve your demo bike (first come, first served), and plan to arrive by 9:15 AM so we can swap your pedals, dial in your fit, and set your tire pressure before we head out.
All rider levels welcome!
One of the things we're most proud of is that you don't have to pin on a number to experience what's happening in Sonoma County on April 25th. Last year, we brought live professional road racing back to American soil for the first time since 2019. This year, we're doing it again — and you can watch every mile of it from wherever you are.
The Growler Professional Road Race will be broadcast live and free on our website and on YouTube. Grab your coffee, clear your morning, and watch 138 miles and nearly 14,000 feet of elevation unfold in real time across some of the most stunning roads in California. Whether you're on the couch or on the course, you're part of this.
Here's to doing big things.
