Lauren De Crescenzo's cycling journey began at Broomfield High School, near Boulder, Colorado, where her passion for the sport took root. She excelled as a collegiate road cyclist, paving the way for a professional career in road racing. However, in 2016, her trajectory was dramatically altered by a devastating crash. Airlifted to the hospital, Lauren spent seven days in a medically induced coma and underwent two months of intensive rehabilitation at Craig Hospital, relearning basic skills like walking and talking.
Despite the odds, Lauren turned to cycling as a measure of her recovery, using the sport to reclaim her strength and purpose. In 2018, while pursuing graduate studies, she discovered gravel cycling, a burgeoning discipline that redefined her relationship with the bike. The grueling nature of long-distance gravel races brought a new perspective on pain and perseverance, igniting a fresh passion for competition.
Her breakthrough came in 2021 when she dominated the gravel scene with victories at Unbound Gravel, SBT GRVL, and The Rad. Following her win at Unbound, Lauren decided to leave her desk job behind and fully commit to her cycling career (again).
Today, Lauren rides with a profound appreciation for life and a mission to inspire. She shares her story to motivate others to overcome life-altering setbacks, embodying resilience, grit, and the transformative power of hard work.
Also, she won the Growler last year. ;)
