Lauren began racing in 2009 while attending the University of North Texas. After graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, she started teaching high school math and juggled training and racing on the side. In 2013, she and her husband Mat made a life-changing decision for her to leave teaching and pursue a career as a professional cyclist.
For the majority of her career, she raced with TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank, later EF Education TIBCO SVB. She has represented the USA at many World road championships and will race in the UCI World gravel championships in Veneto, Italy.
Even with a highlight-filled career (see below), Stephens chooses to focus on the bigger picture: “My biggest achievement has been turning my passion into a career and having the opportunity to share my experience with others.”
